History:             

Rotary Cares for Kids began during Past District Governor Harry Kieling’s 2017-2018 Rotary year; the program was initially funded by $500 donations from almost every club in the district with a focus on partnering with OCS to provide backpacks or duffel bags to youth transitioning through foster care.

Expansion:       

After the initial pilot projects in Mat-Su, Southeast and Nome, the program expanded to more diverse youth oriented projects, generally matching club contributions dollar for dollar to increase project impact.

Vision:             

Rotary Cares for Kids complements the District Grant process by supporting youth oriented club projects that arise throughout the year (see RC4K Application Form).  The steering committee will follow these guidelines:

• Matches will be up to $1,000 per club per Rotary year; exceptions can be made at the discretion of the committee
• Projects shall have a measurable hands-on aspect with Rotary involvement
• Proposed projects will be evaluated for impact on youth and effectiveness of public image plan
• Bags and blankets have been funded with previous grants and will be provided at no cost to clubs; committee will determine the appropriate timing to restock supplies.

The Rotary Cares for Kids Committee meets regularly, at least quarterly, to receive a report of remaining funds and resources (i.e. backpacks, duffels and blankets) and review requests for resources and/or funds to match club project expenditures. The committee will also be responsible for communicating the availability of resources to all clubs in District 5010.

What projects qualify for a Rotary Cares for Kids matching grant?

Any project that benefits youth in your community might be a great opportunity to apply for a matching grant.

How does our club apply for a Rotary Cares for Kids matching grant?

Complete a RC4K Grant Application Form (see attached)

How does our club obtain the funds from the matching grant?

Once you complete your project, turn in receipts or copies of your cancelled checks; the grant funds will be issued to the address you supply on the grant application form

What if we don’t have a project in our own community but want to support efforts toward youth throughout the state?

Many clubs have supported Rotary Cares for Kids over the past 6 years with donations to:  

District 5010 (Note “Rotary Cares for Kids” in the memo line) 

These funds are then used to support matching grants throughout Alaska.
