Andre’ Layral, DGE 2019-2020

Andre’ Layral has been a Rotarian since 1992.  He has served twice as Club President (1999-2000 North Pole Rotary and 2010-2011 Sunrisers Rotary Club of Fairbanks).  He has served in several leadership roles within District 5010, including RYLA Chair, District Trainer and Membership Chair. He has also served as a district Visioning Facilitator for many years.  Andre’s proudest moment in Rotary was serving as Project Chair for his club, working with club members and community partners, to complete a Handicap Accessible Playground and Pavilion dedicated in 2016.
Andre’s classification is Education Consulting. He has had a long career in public education in Alaska, serving as an Aquatic Coordinator, Physical Education teacher, Athletic Director, and Middle School Assistant Principal and Principal. He retired from public education in 2000 after 26 years, then worked for the Association of Alaska School Boards until February 2009, when he was named Executive Director for the Alaska Secondary School Principals, where he served until June 2013.  Andre’s passion for youth is obvious, so it is not surprising that is where he also found his Rotary passion leading our RYLA program.

They have two adult children, Nicole and Matt, and they have been blessed with 9 grandchildren.  Andre’ moved to Alaska after graduating from Hawthorne high school in Southern California in 1970. He came to Fairbanks to swim for the Alaska Nanooks. He is a three time collegiate All- American swimmer and was named to the Nanook Hall of Fame in 2016.
Andre’ pursues excellence in all that he participates in, including Rotary. He is an accomplished bowler with three perfect 300 games and two 299’s. He enjoys fishing the Kenai River each summer with his wife Sheri, dog Timmy and friends. He is an avid barbecue pitmaster, known for preparing brisket, pork butt, ribs and chicken for his Rotary installation picnic each June.
