What is a Rotary Foundation Global Grant for Vocational Training?
Established in 1965-66, the Group Study Exchange Program was an educational program that promoted international understanding through organized travel and personal contact. The program evolved as Rotary updated its grant model and placed this activity within global grants. Vocational training under global grants builds skills within a community by offering local training, by supporting groups of professionals traveling abroad for rigorous study in their profession, or to teach local professionals about a particular field. This type of training is often effective in conjunction with a humanitarian project.

You can volunteer to be a vocational training team leader or nominate a non-Rotarian vocational team member – which will it be?
What Makes a Successful Global Grant Application?
Consult with local experts early in the planning process to build a strong program plan and global grant application. The district resource network (see below) can help.
To be approved, your application must clearly describe how your project, scholarship, or vocational training team:

  • Is sustainable — include plans for long-term success after the global grant funds have been spent
  • Includes measurable goals
  • Aligns with one or more of Rotary's areas of focus
  • Responds to real community needs
  • Actively involves Rotarians and community members
  • Meets the eligibility requirements in the grant application terms and conditions

The Rotary Foundation’s grant model empowers Rotarians to continue advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the implement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
What is The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisors?
Supporting the humanitarian grants programs, the Cadre of Technical Advisors is a group of volunteer Rotarians who provide technical expertise and advice to Rotarians planning and carrying out Rotary grant programs around the world. Cadre members serve in countries other than their own, and they conduct on-site project visits for two to three days with written reports upon their return. The Rotary Foundation pays for a per diem and roundtrip airfare.

The cadre is in need of Rotarians qualified in the following fields: Health, Education/Literacy, Small Business/Revolving Loans (microcredit), and Financial Auditing (chartered accountants and certified public accountants), and more. Individuals fluent in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and other language skills are welcome as well.

For more information, visit the cadre’s page on My Rotary or email cadre@rotary.org.

What is “Every Rotarian, Every Year” All About?

This initiative by the Board of Trustees of The Rotary Foundation encourages “every Rotarian, every year” to:

1. Participate in a Foundation program that is making a difference in the world
2. Contribute to the Foundation’s Annual Fund at a sustainable amount

The Rotary Foundation even has banners for clubs where every member contributes at least US$25 to the Annual Fund with a US$100 per capita during the Rotary year. Today, around 1/3 of Rotarians participate in this initiative. In 2020-21, The Rotary Foundation was able to award 1,957 global grants for large-scale sustainable projects due to the generosity of these Rotarians. Think about how much more Rotary could accomplish in the world if all of our 1.2 million worldwide members each gave at least US$25 to our Foundation’s Annual Fund.

If you are a part of the “Every Rotarian, Every Year” initiative – we thank you for your support of The Rotary Foundation and its work.
What is a Major Donor and Arch Klumph Society Member?
Major Donor – The Rotary Foundation recognizes individuals or couples whose combined giving reaches US$10,000, regardless of the gift designation. Since Rotary’s Major Donor recognition began there have been over 30,000 Major Donors.

Arch Klumph Society – Donors whose cumulative gifts total US$250,000 or more are recognized as Arch Klumph Society members. Recognition includes an induction ceremony and your picture and biography in the Arch Klumph Society interactive gallery at the Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Members also receive invitations to society events, along with membership pins and crystals that commemorate their giving level. Rotary Supporting Ukraine
Rotary stands with the United Nations General Assembly in expressing grave concern at "the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, in particular at the reports of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation."

As a global humanitarian organization, Rotary takes a proactive stance toward peacemaking by addressing the underlying causes of conflict.

We support recent UN General Assembly resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian military forces from Ukraine. This aligns with Rotary’s deep commitment to promoting peace through dialogue and conflict resolution.

We are working beside our partners in the international relief community to help provide resources to the more than 10 million Ukrainian refugees forced to flee the field of battle.
Rotarians Respond to Ukrainian Crisis
More than half of the 2.5 million refugees fleeing Ukraine have arrived in Poland where Rotary members are organizing shelter, transportation, and basic necessities for the incoming refugees.

Rotary Club of Olsztyn is collecting and managing donations for refugees, primarily unaccompanied children, staying at Ostróda Camp. Within a few hours, four cars full of donated items were collected— including food, clothes, bedding, personal hygiene products, as well as some toys.

The Rotary Foundation has received thousands of donations, totaling over $1.1 million. These donations support efforts like that of Rotary Club of Olsztyn as well as provide medical supplies in Ukraine and support refugees who have fled to neighboring countries. #RotaryResponds

Raise for Rotary – Another Opportunity to Support Ukraine
Raise for Rotary is a Rotary Foundation fundraising platform that provides clubs and districts an avenue to create fundraisers that support The Rotary Foundation.  Some benefits of this platform include:

  • Empowering Rotary members – Raise for Rotary is a custom-branded platform that’s integrated with our existing online giving system. This makes it easier to create a fundraiser that supports specific Rotary causes, such as the areas of focus, fighting polio, or disaster response, and it expands our reach on social media.

  • Giving donors recognition credit – Donors who give through Raise for Rotary using the email address they use for other Rotary functions, such as their My Rotary account, will receive Rotary giving credit and recognition.

  • Minimizing fees to do more good – External fundraising platforms all have their own fee structures, rules, and guidelines. By creating our own platform, we can process gifts more efficiently and accurately. And that means more of the funds donated go directly toward Doing Good in the World.

Rotary Unites to Deliver Aid to Ukraine
Rotary members in North America, Argentina, and Europe are collaborating with a U.S.-based association of Ukrainian health care workers and using their connections to collect and ship more than 100 tons of critical medical supplies to Ukraine. Two cargo planes packed with tourniquets, blood-clotting gauze, blood pressure equipment, and other items have already been flown from the city of Chicago in the United States to Europe, where members help unload the supplies and get them to Ukraine. Rotary members in Ukraine, where Russia's military action has caused a humanitarian crisis, are in daily contact with hospitals to determine what supplies are needed most.

North American and Argentine Rotary clubs are combining their resources to purchase items from the list of needed supplies. They're also working with contacts at pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment manufacturers to arrange donations. A hospital in Peoria, Illinois, sent an ambulance, and members in Maine, USA, secured a C-arm, a mobile imaging device that can be used to X-ray people for shrapnel.

Contributions to the Disaster Response Fund in support of Ukraine can be made here. All funds need to be received into the Disaster Response Fund by 30 April 2022 in order to qualify for use in support of the Ukrainian relief efforts.
What are Some Financial Best Practices with Grant Funds?
  • Follow your spending plan to distribute and use grant funds for the stated purpose in a timely manner.
  • Make project-related expenditures by check or other traceable methods.
  • If payments are made electronically by one person, maintain a paper trail showing that the payment was approved by both signatories.
  • Maintain detailed receipts and record each transaction in a ledger. The ledger should list each transaction, noting the date, amount, and reason for the transaction.
  • Make sure to share the information so grants run smoothly and funds are secure.

Thank you for making our grant oversight of the highest quality.
