Greetings fellow D5010 Rotarians.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I plan to wrap up my last 4 club visits in January and February and start focusing on our District Conference in Kodiak May 4th -7th. I do hope you can all attend.
Rotarians are doers & givers and as the holiday season has passed, I encourage you all to continue to serve your community. As some of you know I officiate High School wrestling and in between my club visits I officiated over 300 matches between mid-October & mid-December. I don’t say that to brag but to encourage everyone to find their passion and continue to serve your community not only through Rotary but through the many other organizations throughout our state.
Is someone in your club logging in your service hours? As most of you have heard me say we are doers and don’t do it for the credit. How neat would it be when people ask what Rotary is, we could say D5010 provided more than 15,000 hours of community service or your club has provided 1,000 hours of community service.
Don’t forget to make sure your club has contributed to Shelter Box, even if it is only $100, we are making a difference.
Rotary has an international theme each month and the first quarter themes are:
January is Vocational Service Month
February is Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution
March is Water & Sanitation
I wish you all a wonderful 2023! A New Year full of friendship and service.
Mike Ferris,
District Governor
Rotary District 5010
A shout out to the fifteen clubs that have increased their membership numbers this Rotary year, especially those that have increased their ranks by 10% or more- Girdwood 10%, Ketchikan and North Pole 11%, Soldotna 12%, Seward 14%, Russian Jack 18%, Wasilla 21% Anchorage South 22% and the grand prize goes to Susitna with a 40% membership growth going from 42 to 59 members. Seventeen new members from July 1 through December 31st!! President Marty says it’s all about caring for each other and caring for the community.
Despite these success stories, as a district we are down 59 members, total. Is your club struggling with membership? There are many tools available to you on My Rotary, everything from evaluating where you are, to engaging your existing members, to conducting a membership event. I realize it’s not always easy to find things on My Rotary, if you’re having trouble finding something, I’m willing to help, just let me know.
Exit Interviews can help your club identify why members are leaving your club. The District Membership Committee has developed a streamlined Exit Interview form and is also willing to help you conduct these interviews.
Club Visioning is another great way to get your club focused on your top priorities, when was your club’s last Visioning Session? Let me know if you want to get on the list for your next session. DG Mike suggests doing this every 3-5 years.
If you are interested in any of these ideas, I can help connect you with the people and tools that you need. Here’s a link to all the online membership tools: https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference/learn-topic/membership

Hello all, I am Paul Paslay, your District Grant Subcommittee Chair (DGSC) for our District 5010. April 20, 2023, is the deadline for a club to file for a district grant. This is an opportunity to use part of the monies we donate to our Paul Harris and other accounts. These monies are returned to our district several years after they are donated.
I encourage everyone to visit www.matchinggrants.org, navigate to the district grants description pages and check out the district grants that have been granted over the last number of years. This will give you an idea of what kind of one-year, “shovel-ready “ projects have been implemented.
These projects can be visible reminders to our communities of what Rotary does. They improve our communities and promote fellowship among our members as we complete them. I hope your club will consider applying. Please be in contact if you have any questions, at paul@paulpaslay.com.
