Stories
In 2020, D5010 Rotary had three separate and distinct efforts to provide COVID-19 disaster relief and economic help to communities in Alaska. Rotarians and Rotary clubs were generous in their giving and support to others less fortunate during what has proven to be one of the most significant events in our lifetimes in in the past 100 years. Much appreciation goes to the many individuals and organizations who made it possible for D5010 Rotary to help others. |

September 2019 DG Message to D5010 MembersDG Andre's Message - September 2019 In this month's message I share a little about the club visits I have taken thus far on my 2019-2020 DG journey. I reflect on the challenges our state faces, but the opportunities these challenges provide to our clubs for service projects. I celebrate our progress on forming a new Satellite club in D5010 and recent growth in membership since July 1st. I look forward to district efforts providing Rotary education and training for club officers. I talk about district plans for the $200/club Public Image stipend that will be provided this year. I mention the roll-out of our D5010 Mobile APP and progress by the five pilot clubs who are currently using the APP. I invite clubs to share their stories and also send their feedback. I mention plans for World Polio Day and encourage clubs to take action to celebrate eradication efforts. Finally I share that several districts have approached D5010 about opportunities for Rotarians to be a part of Rotary Friendship Exchange in 2019-2020 and 2010-2021. If you have interest in this, please contact me. |

Putting power in hands of women

Stephanie Woollard went from Down Under to the top of the world to find out if one person can make a difference. The clacking of sewing machines fills the sunlit room until word spreads that the bus has arrived. How to celebrate Mardi Gras in Alaska!

One lucky bidder won a Mardi Gras dinner for six at our annual "Night at the Movies" Foundation Fundraiser. These folks know how to party! Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday. It's also called Shrove Tuesday, Carnival Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday, depending on where the celebration is taking place. No matter the name, it's a day of revelry that includes parades, parties and gastronomic indulgence before the Christian fasting season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. It marks the last day of the Carnival season, basically a six-week period of partying around the globe. ![]() |

We will hear inspiring stories from Rotary Youth Exchange students. We will share ideas, celebrate our accomplishments, and find out what has been happening in the district and the world. “Together, we are the inspiration!” ![]() |
All are safe!

Hi Everyone, And…. November went out with a jump and a jolt which got all of our attention. But our members are safe. Bob and I were in Seward helping the Club give Superintendent Lapinskas a Paul Harris for his work with the prisoners within the Springcreek Correctional Center. As we waited to get in, the prison went on lock down but they allowed us to come in to present the award, and more importantly let us back out! I’ve always said orange is NOT my color but according to some Facebooks posts – a few of you thought perhaps it WOULD look good on me – hah – nice try! I have contacted all Rotary Presidents in our immediate affected areas and have heard from others all over the District. Most damage seems to be personal items inside houses and minor cracks in structures. It is sad to lose treasured objects, but they are objects, not our loved ones. No injuries reported as of yet. As always, our Rotarian friends are helping those in their immediate areas and we have offered more help if needed. The In-Bound Youth exchange students are all safe and accounted for. Their parents have been contacted and reassured of their safety. All of us are thankful to have survived ANOTHER earthquake and will plan for the next as well since it is “When not If” in our area. Our Crises Plan is being formalized and updated as we speak and seems to be working well so far. If you have any suggestions please send them to Joe Kashi as he is the point person to gather issues for the Crises Planning. It has been heartening to hear the voices of those we care about. So I’m very happy to report that all is well so far. If anything changes, I’ll keep you posted. Yours in Rotary, DG Diane |

Are you planning your year-end contributions?
Many donors in your district are planning their calendar year-end contributions. Calendar year end is a popular time for a number of giving options like:
- IRA Charitable Rollovers: Enables donors over 70 ½ years old to transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA account directly to charity.
- Corporate Matching: Employers can match any of your donations by sponsoring a matching gift program.
- Stock Gifts: Help Rotary make an impact and receive tax benefits by making a gift of appreciated securities.
